Decorating A Styrofoam Christmas Tree

Today let's talk about How to Decorate Styrofoam Christmas Trees!

Each month we've been creating crafts with the fabulous FloraCraft products (see my DIY Christmas Ornament Sign and DIY Glittered Lollipop Stand) and this is the month I've been waiting for!

When I lived in Virginia, I had a group of dear friends who introduced me to the wonderful world of Make It Fun:: Foam Christmas trees.

Ever since I've been committed to decorating a Make It Fun:: Foam Christmas tree every year as a fun holiday craft. I love that the possibilities are endless and each year I come out with a completely unique idea from the year before.

This year I created a whole tree village inspired by a very colorful and bright friend of mine. Her Christmas is full of turquoise, pinks, purples and limes greens. I loved the look and crafted the village to fit that scheme. I've learned a few tips over the years how to decorate a successful tree and thought I would share with you.

TEXTURE OF STYROFOAM CHRISTMAS TREES

A successful tree and village is made of really great textured materials. For this particular village, I used crepe paper, tinsel, ribbon, yarn, tulle, and wired tinsel. I've also created trees with ribbed fabric, sequins and glitter. The material brings the tree to life, so the more texture the better.

ACCESSORIES ON STYROFOAM CHRISTMAS TREES

It's not enough to use great textures. The crepe paper trees are bright and fun, but were a bit boring by themselves.

I pinned beads, pom-poms and sequins to some of the trees to give them more of a pop while other trees are topped with mini Christmas bulbs or sparkly poms. The accents and accessaries give the tree some dimension and character.

PINS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND

When creating your tree, using straight pins to keep both your materials and accessaries into place. Glue melts the foam and the pins allow you to place the accents exactly where you want them.
